Summer Days...

Where has the time gone?
In a little less than a month the kiddos will be heading back to school.

There have been days full of swimming and painting furniture, (because that's what we do around here), visiting friends, graduation party and wedding, and everyone taking a turn or two helping out at the store.

We have been to the beach twice.(such a treat!) There have been days of antiquing and yard saling. Or junkin' as some of you like to say.

And on these long hot summer days...

We have enjoyed some cool simple meals.

Delicious!
Fresh Corn Salsa, Quacamole and salty Corn Chips.

I hope you are enjoying your summer as much as we are.

The Coffee Table

I recieved such kind comments about the posts I did on my home
I decided to share a little bit more. One of the reasons I like to share pics of my home is to give inspiration of how to decorate using vintage items.  We sell similar things in our store.

So here is the coffee table.

It is simply an old wood box/trunk.
Place it in front of your sofa or a couple of chairs and you have a
coffee table.

Place some items on top that you love, and you are done!

Pretty shells and an old sea float were gathered to sit in my vintage locker basket.

A few of my favorite decorating books also rest here, easy to pick up and browse through for great inspiration.
~French Atmospheres~
(not pictured, available in our store)

Summer decorating wouldn't be complete without some beautiful hydrangeas.

I love the hardware on this primitive piece.

And the patina of the wood.  Some would say that it is not perfect.
I love it that way.

Another peek of the hardware.

Perfect for my living room.

What do you use for a coffee table?

I am linking this post to Feathered Nest Friday.

Specialty Shows and The Store

For several years now we have been doing two shows a month and an additional specialty one every once in a while.  We have our own store plus we have a space at another store.  It has kept us VERY busy trying to juggle all of these shows and the two stores.  Sometimes our store has suffered because we save things for the shows.
So.....
We are going to try something different for a while.
We will only do specialty shows, and every once in a while Alameda or Sacramento.  This will make it that we don't have to hold items back for a show.  Instead we will be placing the items in the store.  You will not have to wait once a month to see what we have, you can come to the store, Tuesday - Sunday.

I love to make flower frog towers.

This bed spring sold to a new college student who was going to use it for a headboard.

Beautiful large mirror reflecting a cement lady.

Look for more selection in the store now.

This is a fun group of mirrors and frames with a huge vintage chalkboard.

Looking forward to seeing you at the store!
I'll keep you posted here about the next big specialty show.

Rust and Lace

We have been cleaning up the "save this for something" piles around here.  Among some stuff that we found, there was this old rusty bed.  (It is actually faded red paint, with a little rust.)
I knew I had saved it for something!

I could just see it on the front porch to lounge on in the summer.

So we loaded it up and took it to The Alameda Antique Faire this last weekend.  I took these pics there.  It did not go home with anyone.

We will take it to Sacramento Antique Faire this Sunday and if no one claims it then, it will find a cozy spot on my front porch.
I love the combination of the metal, slightly rusty, with the vintage lace.

It would be so perfect for an afternoon nap, or to lay on, in the evening and feel the cool summer breeze.  (We get a Delta breeze every evening that cools the valley off.)

The legs fold in for easy storing.
Do you ever wonder what it might have been in a former life?  A hospital bed?  A bed in a Camp cabin?

Can you see it too?
You are welcome to come on over for a nap. :)

Last week we held a Blog Luncheon here at The Vintage Bricoleur.  It was well attended with about 17 local bloggers from the Northern Ca. area.

Courtney from French Country Cottage was our guest speaker.  She covered many topics that were so helpful to some of us not-so-experienced bloggers.

Now, if you missed this event and are interested in attending one like this, we will be holding another one in the Fall.  Just send me an email so I add you to the already growing list.
