What has The Vintage Bricoleur been up too?

Oh My!
It has been sooo long. Over a month, and I'm sorry.
Actually, you might not even care or have noticed that I've been quiet.
But...
For my customers who stalk  I mean follow me, I know they like to see what is new around here.
So, Here we go.

Back in the beginning of February I was doing some picking for the store and the upcoming shows and found this little half table.  Guess what?  It's perfect for me and it won't be going to the next show.  I'll share more on that later.

We had another great show at The Sacramento Antique Faire the second Sunday in February.

This cute desk is still available.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® - Old Ochre with Clear & Dark Wax.

We celebrated my father-in-law's 70th Birthday.
You can barely see is name tag. It says "Daddy".

We painted lots of furniture with our favorite paint. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®. -Antibes with Clear & Dark Wax and a bit of Gilding.
 Tutorial to come!

We had an awesome show at The Alameda Antique Faire the first Sunday in March.  It had been 6 months since we had been there.  It was good to see many old customers.

The following Sunday we were back at The Sacramento Antique Faire.

The day after that we had out-of-state family here for a week.  What a great time we had.  I had such a blast showing them around and I even got to spend a couple days working in the store with one of my sisters.  Thank you all for coming out to visit.

Needless to say, I have neglected this blog.  I have many photos ready to share. A few tutorials and some before and after shots from our projects.

What is next for The Vintage Bricoleur?

~Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Class - April 16, at TVB.
~Mes Amis Vintage Antiques Show - April 20, in Roseville.
~Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Class - May 21, at TVB.
~Remnants of the Past - June 1&2, in San Luis Obispo.

That takes us to Summer and I can't think past that for now.  In between come visit us at the store.

Specialty Shows and The Store

For several years now we have been doing two shows a month and an additional specialty one every once in a while.  We have our own store plus we have a space at another store.  It has kept us VERY busy trying to juggle all of these shows and the two stores.  Sometimes our store has suffered because we save things for the shows.
So.....
We are going to try something different for a while.
We will only do specialty shows, and every once in a while Alameda or Sacramento.  This will make it that we don't have to hold items back for a show.  Instead we will be placing the items in the store.  You will not have to wait once a month to see what we have, you can come to the store, Tuesday - Sunday.

I love to make flower frog towers.

This bed spring sold to a new college student who was going to use it for a headboard.

Beautiful large mirror reflecting a cement lady.

Look for more selection in the store now.

This is a fun group of mirrors and frames with a huge vintage chalkboard.

Looking forward to seeing you at the store!
I'll keep you posted here about the next big specialty show.

Rust and Lace

We have been cleaning up the "save this for something" piles around here.  Among some stuff that we found, there was this old rusty bed.  (It is actually faded red paint, with a little rust.)
I knew I had saved it for something!

I could just see it on the front porch to lounge on in the summer.

So we loaded it up and took it to The Alameda Antique Faire this last weekend.  I took these pics there.  It did not go home with anyone.

We will take it to Sacramento Antique Faire this Sunday and if no one claims it then, it will find a cozy spot on my front porch.
I love the combination of the metal, slightly rusty, with the vintage lace.

It would be so perfect for an afternoon nap, or to lay on, in the evening and feel the cool summer breeze.  (We get a Delta breeze every evening that cools the valley off.)

The legs fold in for easy storing.
Do you ever wonder what it might have been in a former life?  A hospital bed?  A bed in a Camp cabin?

Can you see it too?
You are welcome to come on over for a nap. :)

Sharing A Bit of my Home ~ Part 3

Ok, time for the Dining Room.
This room is the first room I saw, the first time I walked into this house 11 years ago.
I think it is one of my favorites.

You have to understand that when most people looked at this house they said
"The only tool you need for that place is a bulldozer."
It was pretty rough.  But I saw something else.

We worked on the house for 2 solid months before we moved in.  And when we moved in, it was into this room.  We had been living in a fifth wheel, so to us, this seemed HUGE!  (We had completed the kitchen, dining room, living room and 1 bathroom.)  That's right, we set up Camp in this dining room for a month or two while we worked on a bedroom.

When I walked in that first day, this is what I saw.  (In my mind),  I could see it.  This room has built-in cabinets!  And look a plate rail!  And board and batten!  I had a vision.

I love to display my blue &white plates on the rail.  This table had been abandoned in another room of the house.  Now, with a painted white skirt and pedestal and a natural top, it is living a new life again.

I love the board and batten.
More plates along with a couple of footed, tarnished silverplate trays surround the room.

This long primitive bench is a favorite place to sit when people gather at our house.

Two of my favorites.

A painted icecream bucket holds my Jade plant nicely.
It sits on a sweet burlap and lace cloth made by my sister.

This chippy white mirror reflects my collection of ironstone, jade, and cobalt dishes.

The fun thing about this built-in cabinet is that it is accessible from this side, the dining room, and around the corner to the right, in the kitchen.

That is the story of the 97 year old dining room.
Maybe some day I will share some before/after pics of the whole remodeling process.

I hope you have enjoyed the little Bits of My Home.
